On Easter Sunday Anthony Kim defeated Vaughn Taylor with a par on the first hole of sudden-death after making a bogey on the 72nd hole to fall into a tie with Taylor. It was the second consecutive playoff on the Redstone Golf Club — Tournament Course. Kim shot 68-68-69-70 and Taylor shot 70-68-70-68 to finish at 12-under-par 276. |

Shell Oil President Marvin Odom announced a 5-year extension of its title sponsorship through the year 2017. Shell was celebrating its 20th year as title sponsor of Houston's PGA TOUR event and is now the third longest-serving title sponsor on the schedule. |

Phil Mickelson made the Shell Houston Open his 39th PGA TOUR victory by shooting 70-70-63-65 for a 20-under-par 268 total and a 3-stroke victory over Chris Kirk and Scott Verplank. Lefty's third-round 9-under-par 63 matched the 18-hole scoring record shared by Adam Scott and Johnson Wagner. Fred Couples, 2003 SHO winner, made his 18th consecutive cut, establishing a new record. Couples and Jimmy Demaret had both made 18 striaght cuts. |

Hunter Mahan shot 69-67-65-71 and became the year's first multiple winner by claiming a 1-stroke victory in the Shell Houston Open. Mahan had won the Accenture World Match Play Championship in February. The victory catapulted him to No. 4 in the World Golf Rankings. He earned $1,080,000 out of a $6 million purse. Fred Couples made a tournament record 19th consecutive cut in his 20th appearance. |
